Japanese transliteration problems

Thanks to Alan Engel et al. for raising this issue again. I don't profess
to follow the whole logic of the argument, but would just like to plug a
helpful article which appeared in "World Patent Information" vol. 16 no. 3
p.154-158 (1994) by Roger Huby and Victor Schenk - "Some problems in
translation of Japanese patents".
The question was raised at the PDG some while back as to whether the JP
office could be persuaded to add the additional pronunciation notation to
their inventor records, to assist in the transliteration, but I don't recall
a reply being received - maybe a PDG/IMPACT member can help here ?
