I hope no one takes this man's opinion too seriously, but, there may be some
'grain' of truth behind what he says.
For example, just because we know a lot about the 'mechanics' of searching
doesn't necessarily mean we do good searches. Do we know as much as we
should about the purpose of the search, the subject matter and the
background, and the content and language of the documents we are searching
before we go online? All those things are necessary for good searches, in
addition to knowledge about the details of databases and search systems.
I, for one, would like to learn more about what attorneys and other search
requestors really think about the searches we provide. I believe the
answers may surprise some people.
