In a one-person library trying to do everything from purchasing to
patent searching, I have not done searching on another database
because I don't have time so I appreciate the announcement from
Micropatents to remind me to take a few minutes as soon as possible
and look at the new patents. Perhaps Micropatents could ask people
who want the announcement to contact them and they could create a
private mailing list for their brief message. Connie Bihon

Every Thursday the same message goes up from MicroPatent: OK, folks, we just
updated our file. Would we have as benign a response if the PIUG list were
to get a message every time that every online host updated every
patent-related database? I think not. The messages that Julie Briggs puts
up from Derwent have real information that I am interested in finding out
about, because Derwent is still behind and (hopefully) catching up with
printed and other products. To my way of thinking it tells us nothing when
Thursday comes and MicroPatent says "Guess what, folks, it's Thursday." Among
other things I will already have run a search on that same batch of patents
on another database, first thing Thursday morning. So I consider the Patents
on the Web announcements to be an irritation, albeit a small one.
