WIPO liaison

Dear all
Congratulations to PIUG and PATMG officials for the prompt action -let's
hope we see some progress.
I feel that we need to address a wider principle here, though. I have
felt for some time that, by comparison with other database producers,
WIPO suffers from a particularly diffuse (non-existent?) method of
liaising with its users, whether this is for online systems, disks or
paper products. There is no "user group" as such, and apart from
informal discussions which may arise out of PCIPI meetings or similar,
no mechanism for WIPO to contact and consult with those who use its
information products.
I think that with the increasing importance of the PCT as a patent
information producer, it is high time that a regular means of contact
and discussion should be established. Part of the problem lies in the
fact that several parts of WIPO seem to be responsible for different
information products - there is no apparent equivalent to the EPIDOS /
Gerard Giroud structure.
What does the world think ? and if you agree, where do we prod the
mammoth ?
