Derwent's USPM file on Orbit can be searched by US class and
International Patent Class AND by the inventor's state.
Other people have already indicated which classes to search for a
broad grouping of biotech patents.
Inventor's states can be searched in the IS field. For example;
NBR CA/IS

Subject: Biotech Patent Reference Question

Hello,
A sociology student is interested in finding out how many
biotechnology patents have been issued in the U.S. with a
breakdown by state and by publication year. Does someone
with patent searching experience know how to identify what
classification codes might be appropriate for this search
topic? Many thanks in advance for your help!
