As many of you will have heard by now, Paul Gardner is leaving Derwent to
pursue other interests and during the next few weeks will hand-over
responsibilities as Managing Director of Derwent, to his successor, Martin
Nathan.
Martin has held several senior positions at Reed Elsevier and his last post
was as President of Reed Travel Publishing, a leading provider of
comprehensive travel, information products and services.
Paul Gardner has achieved a great deal during his five year stay at
Derwent, including the launching of new services, the increase in coverage
of patent documents, a very substantial re-structuring of our Operations
activities, the start-up of an entirely new printing facility in North
London and a programme of re-engineering of the Derwent production
processes, including entirely new ways of working to improve radically both
quality and timeliness.
He has also significantly stepped up investment in the development of new
products and services, most especially replacing outmoded paper based
products with electronic alternatives and, more recently, has ensured
sufficient resources are available to handle customised "Intranet"
solutions to provide both intellectually enhanced and first level data in
electronic form.
He leaves Derwent in a strong position to exploit the new technologies and
to ensure Derwent has a bright future in the provision of high quality
scientific and technological information for the world's leading
research-based organisations.
We all wish Paul every success in the future and thank him for his very
substantial contributions to Derwent.
If you have any queries on this or on any other matter, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
