Thanks for raising this issue, Stu - it's not the first time that there has
been a disparity in the algorithms used for generating "standard" Derwent
numbers. We will also need to keep an eye open for what happens now that
German utility models are coming on stream in Derwent. These have an
application number format 2 YY NNNNNN, so if the leading document type digit
is being dropped by the algorithm, there is a potential for confusion
between standard patents and Gebrauchsmustern in the application number
field. Derwent, please note !
