CAS ENHANCES CD-ROM PRODUCTS
CA on CD and collective indexes will feature new print options,
index browse capabilities and other improvements
COLUMBUS, JULY 8, 1996--Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) has
announced a new version of its flagship CD-ROM product, CA on CD,
including a series of new and enhanced features that will also
apply to CA collective indexes on CD. The upgrades will include
more print options and expanded index browsing capabilities along
with an option for customers to copy the CD's to their hard
drives. These enhancements will be available in Version 2.0 of
CA on CD, which will be released in October 1996, and in the 13th
Collective Index (13 CI) on CD and the reissued 12th Collective
Index (12 CI) on CD, which will be available in 1997. Because an
annual CA on CD subscription is cumulative, the enhancements will
apply retroactively to all of 1996.
"CA on CD has been a winning product since its introduction
earlier this year," said Suzan Brown, CAS director of marketing.
"We see it as an evolving product and, with the benefit of customer
feedback and our growing experience in this medium, we will apply
new technological developments to make CA on CD and the
collective indexes increasingly powerful information tools."
One especially popular feature will be the option, by simply
signing an addendum to each product license, for customers to
copy CA on CD, the 13CI on CD and the 12CI on CD to their hard
drives.
Also in Version 2.0 are expanded print options; users may
now print bibliographic headings only, the bibliographic heading
plus the abstract or the full record. Customers will also be
able to select multiple entries to search from the browsable
indexes.
CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, produces
the world's largest and most comprehensive database of chemical
information, including nearly 14 million abstracts of
chemistry-related literature and patents and 15 million substance
records. CAS publishes Chemical Abstracts (CA), related
publications and CD-ROM services; operates the CAS Chemical
Registry; produces a family of online databases; and offers the
SciFinder desktop research tool. CAS operates STN International,
a network of scientific and technical databases, in association
with FIZ Karlsruhe in Germany and the Japan Information Center of
Science and Technology.
