We have been approached by NERAC about doing our routine searches as a way
to lower our online search costs and our department manager is considering
this option. Since WPI and other patent databases (other than U.S., WO
and EP) are not available to them, their patent searching capabilities
would not be that strong, so we would still do the bulk of those type of
seach requests. We instead would use them to provide a number of our
non-patent requests (no CA abstracts either). Is it worth it? We would
not be opening the service up to research staff, that would get too
confusing. We had that aspect of their service a few years ago and
converted the legitimate, still active profiles to Dialog/STN. Instead,
we would just forward the results to the requester.

I have my own opinions of the NERAC service but I wish to solicit the
opinions/experiences of anyone who has or currently uses the service.

Thank you.
