CAS ANNOUNCES SCIFINDER RELEASE 2.0
Product offers reaction substructure searching,
chemical catalogs, document ordering and more

COLUMBUS, JUNE 28, 1996--SciFinder Release 2.0, an
easy-to-use research tool from Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS),
is now being shipped to SciFinder customers worldwide. In
addition to the capabilities available in the original release,
the new version introduces features permitting scientists to
search for reactions, find commercial source information for
chemical substances, order documents from CAS and much more.

"Since SciFinder's launch in March 1995, we have received an
overwhelming amount of positive feedback from our customers,"
said Suzan Brown, CAS director of marketing. "We're excited
about SciFinder Release 2.0, which has even more easy-to-use
capabilities and features. Our customers were an integral part
of SciFinder's development; they continue to be invaluable in
helping us improve this product."

SciFinder can now execute a reaction substructure search,
which reviews more than 1.2 million single-step reactions from
1985 to the present. Chemical availability, prices and
quantities for more than 370,000 products from a variety of North
American and European suppliers' chemical catalogs are now
available. Customers also have a direct link to the CAS Document
Detective Service (DDS).

Other improvements permit customers to find regulatory
compliance information, specify roles in a reaction search (for
example, by indicating whether substances of interest are
reagents or products), and communicate comments electronically to
CAS. Release 2.0 also features better performance and
responsiveness.

"This new release is a major development for SciFinder,"
said Rudolph Potenzone, CAS director of new product development.
"It highlights our commitment to broaden SciFinder's scope as the
premier information tool for scientific research, permitting
scientists to gain greater benefit from the ever-expanding CAS
information base."

SciFinder is the only easy-to-use, desktop scientific
research tool that provides access to more than 15 million
chemical substance records, nearly 14 million documents,
information on commercially available chemical products, 2
million patents from 26 countries, and 1.2 million chemical
reactions. This information is updated daily or weekly.
