Structure Searching-What's Important

Folks,
As you may have noticed, Edlyn has organized a pharmaceutical patent searching
course to be held in May. I have volunteered to conduct a session, which will
be 1 hour, on chemical structure searching. As I have not been involved with
patent searching in some time, perhaps you folks in the trenches, might
provide me (and ultimately the participants in the class) with some
assistance.

1) What are 5 fundamental things every patent searcher should know or think
about when doing chemical structure searching?

For example:
Structure searches can be very costly when compared to many other searches,
so consider the purpose (e.g. novelty, infringement), and 'gravity' of the
search. (OK, maybe this is true for ANY search, but there's more $$ here)

Send these to me personally, and I'll summarize for the list if there's
interest.

2) Any volunteers to review the outline of this presentation?

Thanks,
Norman R. Schmuff
