CAS ANNOUNCES NEW PATENT DOCUMENT SERVICE
ON WORLD WIDE WEB

NEW ORLEANS, March 25, 1996--Chemical Abstracts Service
(CAS) announced today easy, cost-effective Internet delivery of
all U.S. patents since 1974. CAS's new service, Chemical
Patents Plus, part of the CAS Document Detective Service (DDS),
incorporates a specially indexed collection of U.S. chemical
patents and rotatable 3D structure views for many CAS Registry
Numbers via browsers that support JAVA.

Chemical Patents Plus gives the user enhanced chemical
patent information including CAS indexing data and chemical
structure illustrations, easy search access, a variety of display
formats and complete text of patents issued by the U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office (USPTO) since 1974, with partial coverage of
selected technologies from 1971-73. Chemical patent records
include searchable CAS indexing data for the invention (including
CAS Registry Numbers) based on the U.S. patent or a foreign
equivalent. Two-dimensional and rotatable three-dimensional
structure views are also available for many CAS Registry
numbers. Complete image pages, in high resolution format, for
all U.S. patents issued since January 1, 1993, are also
available for downloading.

"CAS has combined U.S. patent information with our
scientific expertise to give Internet users a unique document
service," said Suzan Brown, CAS director of marketing.
"Easy-to-use features allow users to find relevant patents and
view only needed sections, saving both time and money."

Users will be able to access the full capabilities of
Chemical Patents Plus beginning in April via the CAS home page at
http://www.cas.org or directly via the Chemical Patents Plus home page at
http://casweb.cas.org/chempatplus. A free demo of the service
will be available.
