Patented gene sequences

Anna Maria,

Although I can't answer your note directly, I would like to call your
attention to another database of genetic sequences, GENESEQ.
Geneseq contains nucleic acid and amino acid sequences found in
patents and presently covers 40 patent issuing authorities. GENESEQ
can be assessed as an in-house database or via STN and Bionet, and has
software which will allow searching of the sequence data.

As far as I know there is no requirement to have an accession number
for your sequence before submitting your sequence to the patent
office. In fact there are many patented sequences which appear in
GENESEQ which have never been added to GenBank or EMBL.
One other point worth mentioning in that several Patent Offices search
the GENESEQ database, incuding the USPTO and the EPO.

Hope this help!
