This exchange is fascinating! Sandra and Edlyn, the idea of manuals
and search support materials on the Net would mean that there
would be less need for paper copies of the manuals
(which I have a difficult time updating with the
new materials) and they could be regularly updated by the producer/vendor
on a Web page.
Producers and vendors, just imagine how much your publishing and paper
costs would be reduced. Plus, there would be more informed use of
the special features of the various systems if one didn't have to hunt
in a hard copy manual that particular indexing or code.
One nice feature of the new USPTO Biblio searching on the net is a
link to the main US Class of a particular patent. Of course, the PTO's
rendition has a long way to go, and they are clearly overwhelmed by
the response.
It is clear to me that patent searching is going through a revolution.
I find it exciting, but we do need to make sure that we get something
better than what we had in the past. Edlyn's and Sandra's exchange
is real positive thinking. Hope the vendors and the producers are
listening.
