As I have read messages over the last week, I have several things we
professional patent searchers need to think about:
1. Do we want to ignore the routine formalities of the English language,
such as grammar, basic spelling? I am not referring to typos. Remember that
your messages are a reflection on you, the work you do, the person you are.

2. Concise and clear expression of thought commands more attention from
readers. We all would demand this in any analytical search report we prepare
or read, and I don't think we should abandon this practice here.

3. Vitriolic and personal attacks are completely unwarranted. When we stoop
to engage in these practices, everyone quickly becomes involved in the
controversy, not the heart of the matter originally provoking the attack.
Your message of dissent becomes diverted and centers around the act of
dissension itself. We don't have to essentially say each time, "Put up your
dukes and fight like a (wo)man!"

As each PIUG member already knows, we engage in a lot of healthy debate at
our meetings and we find no need to censor expression of thought at those
meetings. Our behavior on this listserv should be the same. Those of you
who are not PIUG members should be aware that the Internet may be "free", but
your excessive rudeness may not be tolerated by us for long.
