1) Lattice is developed on a machine that has a virus checker installed.
This is never turned
off and additionally all files are scanned manually before distribution on
the Internet.
2) Two weeks ago, Lattice 1.16 was featured on the cover CD .Net
(http://www.netmag.co.uk/software/onthecd/default.asp) magazine. The
distribution for this was 55,000 copies and the copy they used was
downloaded from my site. I know .Net also scan for viruses before cover CD
inclusion.
3) There are a large number of Lattice installations in corporate
environments. This is the first virus report to date.
4) The SysOp (Bill Murray) kindly scanned the software with Norton
Antivirus and did not find an infection.
Despite the above, these warnings are always taken seriously and shall be
investigating this and will report back to the PIUG today.
Kind Regards
Steve

>Patent Information Discussion List:

>The PIUG/PATMG Patent Information Discussion List (PIUG-L) serves as a
>forum for discussion of questions relating to patent information.
>News and questions and concerns about new developments in patent
>information from patent information users, patent offices, including

> Guidelines for Commercial Postings
>
>The following guidelines have been developed for posting of
>information about commercial products on the PIUG/PATMG Patent
>Information Discussion List (PIUG-L):
>1. Blatant marketing statements should be avoided, but information on
>new products is welcome.
>2. Rather than listing prices, it would be better to include a name,
>phone or FAX number or e-mail address for people who want to follow up
>on the prices of products.
>3. A product description submitted not by a company representative,
>but by an individual who is on the list of subscribers may include the
>price.
>4. Avoid repetitious statements about the company.
>5. Press releases are not monitored, but only those press releases
>which are clearly related to patents and its information sources
>should be placed on PIUG-L.

> Sending Messages to the PIUG/PATMG Patent Information Discussion List
>
>* Send messages intended for the discussion list to:
>
> PIUG-L@DERWENT.TECC.CO.UK
>
>EVERYTHING you send to this address will be sent to everyone on the
>list.
>
>* Meaningful Titles for Messages Sent to the PIUG-L list: Please
>attempt to create meaningful titles for all of your messages. Many
>people recieve 20 or more email messages a day from different lists.
>A meaningful title will increase the probability that your message
>is read.
>
>* Sign Messages Sent to the PIUG-L list: Some computer systems remove
>the headers from incoming email. Please sign any messages with your
>name, company, email, etc. to identify the author of each message.
>
>* One common mistake made by users of the forum is to issue a "REPLY"
>command to a query or opinion, thinking that the response will go only
>to the person who originally sent the message. It does not! It will
>go to everyone on the list. Therefore if you want to reply just to
>the sender of the original message, you should note the address of
>that person and send a new message only to that address.

> Patent Information Users Group (PIUG)
>
>The Patent Information Users Group (PIUG) was established in 1988.
>The objective of the group was to create a forum to discuss issues and
>concerns relevant to the patent searchers' community. Also, PIUG
>promotes the importance of intellectual property, especially patent
>publications, and most specifically, the computerized patent
>databases. Since 1988, PIUG has worked with intellectual property
>database producers and vendors to maintain and to improve the quality
>of their product from the customer, or user, perspective.
>
>From a modest sixteen original members, PIUG in 1996 has grown to over
>157 members. PIUG produces a newsletter and has a formal annual
>meeting, usually in May. The newsletter provides a platform where
>members contribute articles and discussion about patent publications,
>computer software, patent database searching tips, and patent database
>vendor and producer developments. The annual meeting normally has a
>business component and an educational event. Both the newsletter and
>the meeting tend to be quite lively in their content.
