The British Library is running three training courses this autumn:

Introduction to Patents Information, 3rd September 1999
No previous experience is assumed in this workshop which provides a
grounding in the principles of the patent system, emphasising the
retrieval of useful technical and commercial information from patents.

Online Patent Databases for Beginners, 8th September
A practical course focussing on file content, not searching
methodology. Delegates should have some knowledge of patents
documentation procedures and of online searching.

Japanese Patent Information, 21st September
Run in co-operation with the European Patent Office, this course does
not demand knowledge of Japanese. It will give an overview of the very
wide range of Japanese patent information sources available in Europe,
and will suit anyone reasonably familiar with patents.

There is a charge for each seminar (175 pounds except for Japanese
Patent Information which is 190 pounds) but discounts are available
for multiple bookings. The Library's new building at St Pancras,
London NW1, is now completely open offering full access to the Patent
collections.

For more information or to book a place, please contact Maureen Heath
on 020 7412 7470, fax. 020 7412 7947.
