We have been pleased with the enthusiastic response we've received from
users regarding the most recent enhancements to CAOLD. We will also
consider further enhancements such as the addition of patent numbers, as
suggested by patent experts like Nancy Lambert. Stay tuned for future
announcements as we continue building upon the important segment of CAS
information contained in CAOLD.

CAS folks,

This is great. Now, HOW ABOUT THE OLD PATENT NUMBERS? These are an
essential search parameter for CAOLD. And as far as I can tell, CAS is
turning a deaf ear to pleas from patent information people on this subject.
Any progress? Any reason why you can't make patent numbers searchable?
Yes, we are aware that no patent family information can be available before
patent documents included priority information. But basic patent numbers
are better than none at all.

Curie, Einstein and other great scientists now appearing on STN:

This is to update list members regarding an announcement made by CAS
in
March.

The abstracts in the CAOLD file on STN can now be identified by
authors,
patent assignees, and keywords from the titles of documents covered
by
CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS (CA) from 1907 to 1966. This period of coverage
includes
more than 3 million documents in all, including nearly 800,000
patents.

Now you can easily search back to 1907 and, using the PAGE format,
display
the page image of CA with the relevant citation and abstract right
at your
desk.

For more tips see the STNote on the CAS Web site
(http://www.cas.org/ONLINE/STN/STNOTES/stnote21.html). STN users can
enter
the COST command online for pricing information.

As always, you can reach the STN Help Desk at 800-848-6533
(toll-free in
North America) or 614-447-3698. Or send a message to help@cas.org
