The New PIUG Archives are now in place.
These new archives are the result of the efforts of the PIUG Archives
Clean-up Team, consisting of the volunteers: Barbara Burg, Alan Engel,
Catherine Misner, Edlyn Simmons, Tony Trippe and Fred vanderSteur, and
chaired by myself. Over the past year we have identified and deleted
irrelevant, duplicate and unneeded administrative messages from the
archives, and separated out Job Postings from 1996-98 into a separate
archive. The particular problem with older messages being in digest form,
without separate titles, authors and dates has been manually corrected.
The New Archives are in four segments:
1) PIUG 1999 (Current messages, not yet cleaned up)
2) PIUG 1998 (Cleaned up to Dec 17, 1998)
3) PIUG 1995-97 (Cleaned up, 100+ older messages added)
4) Job Postings 1996-98 (Job postings removed from the 1996-98 archives)
Of particular interest may be the new Search feature available at the
Mirror Archives provided at the Questel-Orbit web site. Now messages can be
located from any of the archives by content as well as by title, author or
date.
There are still a few problems with some messages being in two or more
parts. Hopefully, this can be corrected at the time the clean-up of the
1999 messages is done, after year end. The PIUG web pages will soon be
modified to provide status information, archive history, and direct links
to these new archives, but they are already available by following the
internal links at the Derwent and Questel-Orbit web sites.
Many thanks are due to Kim Rabbitts and Vivienne Dipple at Derwent, to
Tony Povoas at TECC, and to Willem Gabilly at Questel-Orbit for their
special support of the clean-up. Derwent kindly provided the cleaned-up,
HTML converted archives to Questel-Orbit for use at the Mirror Archives.
