However, lots of other patents whose maintenance fees were paid probably
also failed to result in viable products.
Then again, products may be the result of multiple patents; and patents may
be the precursor of multiple products. (There is not necessarily a 1-1
relation between productive patents and actual products.)
So, any statistical analysis based on patents and maintenance fees may have
some value, but should also be viewed with strong suspicion.
