Dr Bock's question if there is still a need for CDROM products or whether
patent offices should concentrate on Internet products was serendipitous for
me.

We have limited space in our library and are looking carefully at how we use
it. CDROM patent collections and storage case requirements are growing.
One option would be to order and receive all documents from the US, EP or
PCT offices as needed via the Internet. Since we are a pharmaceutical
company, structures are essential.

If you would reply directly to me, I would be happy to summarize the results
anonymously for the list.

1. Does anyone download patent document images / copies as needed from Net
suppliers rather than print from CD's?

Is the downloaded image pdf quality?

2. Does the library / information center do the download or does the
researcher?

3. Are the costs for the patents paid by the library/ information center or
by
the requester's department?

4. Is ordering cost effective in
a) turn-around time for delivery via the internet
b) patron satisfaction / acceptance

5. Do the Net vendors have the patents available when you need them - and
are the banners with the patent ranges available kept up to date?

6. Who is your primary Internet supplier and how satisfied are you with the
service?

Can you pay a flat fee for downloads or do you pay per patent?

7. How many patents (US/EP/WO) do you order in a year? (<500; <1000; <1500
etc)

>From Dr. Bock
>This question, raised by Mr Reynolds, is a very interesting and important
one. From the view of a national patent office there are two other
intresting subjects:
* is there a further need for CD-ROM products or shall we concentrate
our efforts on internet based information products?
........
*It would be very of interest for me to have your reaction on this problem
which is a very important one for us.

Best regards,
