Ring Index No and Derwent

Altough, we do not subscribe to RIN services offered by Derwent, I use RIN
numbers extensively in my search for common and less common rings for
carrying out a subset search in merged markush file. It is unfortunate that
Derwent has decided to discontinue assigning new RIN numbers.

In their communication to Edlyn Simon, Derwent customer Services observed
"only a very small number of
new
> RINs are currently being generated by our Indexers each week. In
> addition to this the same information covered by RINs already
forms
> part of DWPIM (MMS), and will also be duplicated as a part of the
> proposed DCR indexing for DWPI.". I would like to know the comparative
statistics of introduction of new RIN numbers in WPI and new Ring Index
Numbers in CAS, particularly in patents over the recent years.

If CAS still believes in providing new Ring Index No (as posted in this
listserver by Eric Shiveley), in addition to the substructure search
capability, Derwent must reconsider their decision not to assign any more
RIN numbers. Every additional tools like this helps patent searchers. By the
way would the indexing of DCR include some form of ring identification?
