I agree with you that a more certain and clear usage of official units (lik=
e the metric system) would make everybodies life easier !
Not only ours but also for the assignees themselves because every possible =
ambiguity of any feature of a claim is also a chance to attack the patent r=
espect. avoiding an infringement of the patent.
Another point I want to state is that also the introduction of new "inventi=
ve" units (usually just a multiplication of the known unit A and the known =
unit B) is - from my point of view - a big problem which leads to patents w=
hich are not really inventive. But at least in some cases they will be gran=
ted because of the new unit which was not mentioned in any state of the art=
('cause there was no technological/scientific reason to introduce it).
Maybe the big patent offices should think about their granting policies reg=
arding that point and introduce some (additional) filing rules regarding un=
its.
What is your opinion ?
