Hi Amanda,
Two publicly available web documents relating to Biz Methods Patents
(including software BMP) statistics are:
[1] Statistical Analysis of Internet Business Method Patents by John Allison
http://www7.nationalacademies.org/step/Tiller_presentation.ppt
[2] Some Data About Patents in Class 705 by Roberta Morris (May, 2001)
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~rjmorris/morris4.pdf
You may further find the comprehensive "UPC Technology Patent Maps" /
Patent statistics (statistics dated 2005) useful for your work:
http://www.surfip.gov.sg/sip/research/sipr_search_result_list.jsp?cd=8001&bd=00000100&sd=0009&ld=01&bsd=35&srhid=17&query=upc-705&&tid=18&sid=282&sid=292&sid=161&sid=3&req=ns&enc=iso-8859-1&so=0&type=1
After the above is loaded in yr browser, click on the hyperlink labeld
directly below "1. UPC-705 ...".
Take note that the document "[1] Statistical Analysis of Internet Business
Method Patents by John Allison" revealed the use of UPC-707 and UPC-709 as
part of the analysis. Incidentally, looking at the top related UPC classes
within "UPC Technology Patent Maps", UPC-707 and UPC-709 are included as
well, among other related UPC classes.
Let me know if you need more information on the available Patent Mapping
reports available in SurfIP.
