FileShopper post: Summary of responses

Against post: 1 (Rob Rosenstein's protest)

For post: 7 (Including Mark Schisler's on-list post)

The comments sent off-list:

Response 1:

I think it's 2 to 1 in favor. I wrote a favorable e-mail.

Response 2:

Alan, as long as it isn't a flood of announcements from any one vendor,
I am

OK with allowing "me" to delete the notes I don't want to see. So, I
Agree

with Rob.

I view this as IP product updates... If it were similar information
from

MicroPatent, Paterra, STN, Derwent - I'd definately want to see it!

Response 3 (File wrapper vendor, excluded from above count.):

I agree, his post was in line w/ the guidelines.

Response 4:

As I mentioned in my previous email, I

agree with the current PIUG guidelines, however when someone asks for a
referral,

I think they should get a referral, that is the responses to the

listserve should be limited third parties making the referals; third
parties

which are actually using the company/person that is referred. I think
it

is also reasonable for companies/persons who can fill the needs of the
person

requesting the referral should be able to contact that person directly,
that is

not through the listserv.

Response 5:

Personally I find this sort of posting useful so I agree with Mark
Schisler.
Response 6:

I'm sure the whole list doesn't want to see people voting on this, does

it? So privately, I can say that I disagree with Rob Rosenstein's rant

from three viewpoints:

1. It's tone is rude, not in line with guidelines advised by Martin

Goffman

2. The rant itself has generated too many additional messages - Rob

Rosenstein should have complained to the list administrator and not to

the list.

3. I don't see what is wrong with Jim Turner's message - it's relevant

material, easy to delete if unwanted.
Reponse 7:

I don't find informational announcements unacceptable, so put me down
for agreeing with Mark.
