Jake,

I concur with Todd. The easiest and cheapest way to obtain a copy of the
file history of Canadian patent or published patent application is to call
the CIPO Reproduction Unit at (819)997-2985. They normally accept credit
card payments (my preferred way of paying) and will ship the copy to the
address you indicate, by means of your choice.

Paper copy (at the cost of Canadian $1 per page) is a default option, but
for New Act patents and published patent applications (those with numbers
starting from "2") you may order an electronic copy, which may be
substantially cheaper than the paper version. You may always ask for a cost
estimate before deciding which way to go. There is no electronic option for
file histories of Old Act patents (those whose numbers start from "1"),
which can be ordered only as a paper copy. The electronic copy is delivered
on CD-ROM, normally as three TIFF files plus a short TXT index file.

Best regards

Kaz
