I would support Evert Nijhof's response. The advantage of using a tool
like PCI is that you get citations to a specific patent OR to its
equivalents, in the same answer. This helps to reduce the parochial
effect of different countries tending to cite the local family member of
the same invention. Once you know the syntax, the search costs will
probably come out at less than the cost of the time that you would spend
doing it manually.
