Abstract:

FamPat, Questel*Orbit's new international patent family file, =
represents
a breakthrough in patent family databases offering greater searching
options and the added convenience of family record display.

FamPat is based on PlusPat, our well-known international patent file
that merges the European Patent Office worldwide collection with US,
WIPO, EPO and Japanese patent information, producing the most extensive
and current international patent file: more than 50 million records =
from
more than 70 worldwide patenting authorities.

Enhanced Searching

FamPat is searched exactly the same as PlusPat. But because of family
compilation of records, searching and retrieval is greatly enhanced.
All publication information, including titles, abstracts, inventors and
assignees, as well as ECLA, US, and IPC classification data, is
searchable across family equivalents.

Enhanced Displays

New and enhanced displays have been added to FamPat to include:

* The related stage information, application and filing details
within the family
* Family members by ascending publication date, making family
history easy to see
* "Drill-down" capability to see details of individual family
members

With FamPat, we have developed a family definition which incorporates
the EPO's strict family rule with additional rules to include and
incorporate:

* Links between EP and PCT applications
* US Provisional and published applications
* Different office definitions of what is an invention -
particularly with Japan

This FamPat workshop will feature:

* FamPat overview
* Search and display features
* Family composition

FamPat is a key new component of Questel*Orbit's family of web-based
products and services, including QPAT, PatentExaminer, and the new
professional user interface, Qweb 2. This workshop will include
examples within these services.
