Italian Patent Office new web site

Dear colleagues,
the Italian Patent and Trademarks Office (UIBM) have recently launched
its new web site at http://www.uibm.gov.it/.
The site appear to be still under construction but it already includes
some interesting features (only in Italian language) like regulations,
forms, news and the possibility to search amongst the official patents,
models and trademarks database for free.
This UIBM database seems to be similar to the SIMBA one (fee based)
provided by InfoCamere I have already shortly reviewed in a previous
post.
While SIMBA is directly updated with the filing data by the remote
offices (chambers of commerce), the UIBM is directly updated with the
status data internally provided.
About every week the two institutes provide each other with the
respective updates, therefore "theoretically" the contents of the two
databases should be the same, even if the SIMBA records include more
fields (i.e. payment of annual fees and assignment/license recordal)
than the UIBM one.
Actually, there are delays in exchanging this information and some of =
us
have already experienced discrepancies between the systems.
Searching the UIBM database is not so easy due to the particular system
adopted and the several confirmation one must give before getting the
results.
Since the Italian community is always quite doubtfull in regard to the
UIBM services in general and knowing that in the official database =
there
are some errors, they are now testing it to ascertain as long as
possible how reliable it is.
In my personal opinion at the time being, if someone wish to use the
system i.e. for screening searches or little checks, she/he should
consider only the data positively retrieved to be "quite" reliable,
while in case of negative results a further cross check in another
database is reccomended.
