Hi Jeremy,
The PG designation means that this is an Australian Provisional
Application. Basically these are not published but if the Provisional
was used as the priority for a Granted Australian patent then you may be
obtain a copy from the Patents Office in Canberra. This only happens if
there has been a Granted Patent.
Australia currently has two patents databases - the mainframe for
patents prior to 2001 and PatSearch for applications from 2001 onwards.
Basically if you have a short number (7 digits or less) it is on the
mainframe and the long numbers (10 digits) are on PatSearch.
You can connect to the various databases through the Search Page

>

If it will help, send me the details and I will check the status for
you.
If the patent eventuated from this provisional the record should give
you the details. The Australian Patents Office can supply copies
directly by email - usually $AU 25.00 per copy.
Regards,
Karen

Source for older Australian patent applications
Greetings -
Would someone be able to tell me the meaning of the PG designation,
followed by a 4 digit number in the context of Australian patent
applications?
The app I am interested in is from 1983. Also, if anyone can recommend a
source for obtaining a copy of the document...the Australian IP database
doesn't seem to go back that far. Thank you in advance.
