Thank you all for the various suggestions which have been put forward.
At this stage, I have managed to confirm that pop-up blockers are
disabled and Javascript is enabled, two parameters which seem to be
required. The results have not changed - complete non-response at the
point of submitting the request.

Some people have suggested clearing the cache and/or cookies in my
set-up, which I will try later today.

I can confirm that I can access the system from a dial-up connection at
home, so clearly the system is responding to some requests.

Thank you to Richard Rouse for the PERL script; this sounds a useful
solution, except that my main reason for accessing PAIR is to be able to
monitor how the system 'look-and-feel' changes over time, as I include
instruction on how to use it in some of my training material. So the
plain vanilla access method is what I want to try out.
