David,

Please tell the list more about your present situation. Availability
and cost of training in patent searching for employees of large
companies is very different from the availability and cost for employees
of small organizations or students. It also varies from one country to
another.

If you don't have funding for classes and workshops, you can find lots
of information in the Internet. Patent offices, database producers, and
search services have lots of free and authoritative information. There
are collections of links in places like the PIUG website, www.piug.org,
and the IP Organizers site, www.ipmenu.com. As a general rule, the best
way to learn is to work with a mentor. In the absence of a co-worker,
you can learn a lot by following the discussions on this list.

Subject: Advice on Learning How to Search for Patents

I would like to become well qualified to search worldwide for patents
and other prior art. Can anyone recommend a good way to begin learning
this skill?

Thank you for your help.

David Caldwell
