For US patent portfolios, I'd suggest you include LexisNexis in the mix
of search services. Lexis' US patents database, e.g, USPatall,
combines US grants and US Pregrants into a single database. What =
makes
Lexis particularly useful for investigating patent portfolios is the
integration of post-issuance data, including assignment changes, late
linkages of US Pregrant assignments to the Published Applications,
Reexamination Requests, Reissue Applications, Litigation Notices, etc.
to the fulltext records. I've commented previously on the PIUG list
of the greater retrieval by assignee one gets for US Pregrants on Lexis
compared to nearly all other services, particularly fulltext services.
The assignment data provides enough information to let you know if
reassignments or partial assignments are for purposes of securing loans
or financing, for example, so you get an insight to the extent of
collateralization of the patents of the potential acquisition target. =

Subject: Delphion/Dialog patent searching alternatives
Hello,
What resources (besides the USPTO) have you used for identifying and
compiling the patent holdings (US and otherwise) of a company and its
related companies. We have used Delphion's original assignee and
hierarchy functions and also gotten some information from Dialog. I am
wondering what other services/databases (besides Thomson/Delphion or
Dialog) anyone has used for corporate tree and similar patent holding
information?
Thank you in advance for your insight.
