Job Description
REQUIREMENTS:
* PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or biology with 5 years'
experience in pharmaceutical chemistry and patent information research
is preferred. Alternatively, a Master's degree with 8 years' experience
in pharmaceutical chemistry and patent information would be acceptable
* Familiarity with pharmaceutical information sources and the
pharmaceutical R&D process, as well as knowledge of organic chemistry
* Proficiency in searching scientific, patent and technical
databases from vendors such as STN, Questel-Orbit, and OVID as well as
patent office web sites such as the USPTO and WIPO
* Proficiency in specialized scientific database searching
including chemical substructure and biosequence searching
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Interpret requests for scientific/technical information; design
strategies for the retrieval, analysis, evaluation and reporting of
information from published sources
* Fulfill requests for chemical and patent information, biomedical
literature, bioinformatics, competitor information, drug pipeline data,
and animal alternatives using a variety of information tools in a =
timely
manner
* Provide current awareness alerting of journal and patent
literature for R&D project teams
* Provide end-user training on resources such as SciFinder,
Beilstein, OVID and ThomsonPharma
* Work closely with R&D scientists and patent attorneys to develop
on-going communication regarding information needs
* Participate in R&D library collection maintenance and collection
development activities
* Evaluate new information resources and technologies related to
chemistry, biology, patents, and the pharmaceutical industry
