Job Posting: PATENT ANALYST at Bristol-Myers Squibb

Bristol-Myers Squibb has an immediate opening for a Patent Analyst in
our Knowledge Integration Resources/Patent Analysis Group. The position
will be located at our Pharmaceutical Research Institute's research
facilities in Wallingford, CT.

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual with extensive
knowledge in the field of Medicinal/Organic Chemistry and proven ability
to perform chemical/patent searching. Knowledge of biosequence/molecular
biology patent searching is a plus.

Responsibilities:

    * Perform detailed patent/scientific literature searches and
demonstrate an ability, through scientific insight, to interpret,
analyze and integrate relevant patent related issues, including
patentability, infringement and validity.
    * Manage the development and timely delivery of competitive patent
alerting services.
    * Develop and sustain strategic partnerships with the scientific
staff, patent attorneys, research management and the licensing
department. You will be an integral participant of research and
intellectual property teams.
    * Participate in special projects, such as, design, implementation
and maintenance of digital patent resources (e.g. BMS Patent Portfolio).

    * Market patent information services, train clients in the use of
patent resources/tools and evaluate new digital resources and
technologies for managing information, with emphasis on patents.
    * Work with colleagues in developing and providing an integrated
information service.

Qualifications:

    * Demonstrated ability to perform detailed prior art patent
searching, analysis and reporting of scientific issues uncovered in
searching multiple patent and technical literature sources is required.
    * Thorough knowledge of electronic and manual patent sources (e.g.
Derwent, CAS, INPADOC, US, EPO, PCT patent files) and extensive
experience in chemical structure/reaction searching and Derwent
fragmentation coding is expected. Familiarity with pharmaceutical
information sources (e.g. IDDB3, Pharmaprojects) is desirable.
    * Ability to understand, interpret and articulate client information
requirements as well as demonstrate an in-depth understanding and expert
use of a wide variety of chemical and patent information resources and
technologies (e.g.Derpict,Marpat, Merged Markush Service) is required.
    * Good grasp of patent filing practices, patent classifications,
patent status and litigation information sources is expected.
    * Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential,
with ability to work both independently and in a multi-site team
environment. Flexibility, willingness to continuously learn and
commitment to high standards are desired.
    * Good computer skills and knowledge of Documentum are a definite
asset.
    * Minimum of B.S. in Chemistry, with MS or PhD preferred. Some
laboratory experience in a pharmaceutical setting is highly desirable.
MLS degree is a plus.
    * Minimum of 2 years experience in chemical and patent searching is
required. Knowledge of biosequence/molecular biology patent searching is
highly desirable.
