Michael,
The Battelle Memorial Institute developed a technology called the
"Spatial Paradigm for Information Retrieval and Exploration" or SPIRE.
SPIRE was commercialized as ThemeScape, which was purchased by Aurigin
(formerly SmartPatents). ThemeScape is currently an important part of
MicroPatent's Aureka product.
ThemeScape analyzes large collections of documents and clusters them
based on similar content. The results are displayed in a 3-Dimensional
topographic map format.
The only thing that I'm a bit uncertain about in your question is the
"compare two texts" part - ThemeScape cannot compare two text files,
unless they are part of a larger set. Twenty documents is the minimum.
Otherwise, I assume that Themescape is the software you're asking about.

Hello,
Does someone remembers on which software Aurigin (SmartPatents) was
originally based ?
The software which let them compare two texts and conclude if they are
similar or not.
If I remember well, then it was derived from software from an American
governmental research institute ???
Thank you
Michael Engel
