I agree with previous assessments, that there is no need for a separate
database of job postings. I have so little time to read all the emails that
I receive every day. I, for one, do not have time to go a separate job
board every day, especially since the jobs available to us are few and far
between. I want to see the job postings on the regular PIUG list. Persons
that wish to have a searchable database can copy the few job postings (that
we do get) and paste them into Word or some other searchable software.

Damian,
I don't know what Michael envisioned, but I envisioned two PIUG Discussion
Lists that all of us could be subscribed to: one for discussion, one for job
postings. This would not change the playing field as far as I can see.
As for the searching, that has to do with an archive and should have the
same access as the current archive. Again, should have no change to the
playing field.
But all of this is hypothetical because I do not know how to do such things.
However, I think the current PIUG Discussion List is pretty good so I plan
to use the same philosophy I used to work with Sandra Unger to develop the
current list for any future developments. I will keep your comments in
mind.
Thank you.

Michael,
Your call for a job postings database has been answered only in the
negative, albeit politely. PIUG readers should know you now as someone who
doesn't listen to the advice of his colleagues. Or suspect you as someone
with an ulterior motive.
Aside from the many aspects of convenience mentioned already by others in
this discussion thread, there is the added value of democratizing the job
search process that an email list enables. Anyone can post a job that is
accessible to all potentially interested parties at the same time. To
change this is to give an advantage to one potential headhunter, the 'job
postings administrator'. Is this your real motive? Recruiter postings are
an important part of the PIUG list, so it would be a shame to unlevel the
playing field. Whatever your answer, an introduction about yourself would
be welcome.

Well let's try it. Can we at least do that? I would
like to think of our job postings more than just
