Michael,
PIUG-L was created to provide the information patent information specialists
need. We spent quite a lot of time deciding where the bounderies are between
appropriate use of the discussion list and inappropriate use. Sharing
information about jobs has always been considered to be useful and appropriate.
Imagine that you're thinking about moving to another company. You're not quite
unhappy enough to spend much time looking for a new job. Wouldn't it be
convenient to have the jobs you're best suited for dumped into your email box?
Imagine you're a manager looking for an experienced patent information
professional to fill an open position in your company. You don't want
applicants with computer science backgrounds. You don't want librarians with
liberal arts backgrounds. You don't want attorneys. Where do you imagine you'd
be able to reach the most qualified candidates for the job?
Both potential applicants and people looking for new employees are members of
PIUG-L. If you read all the postings, you know that I posted a job opening not
long ago. I wish all my applicants had been list members, because the
Monster.com applicants don't seem to understand what the job entails.
If you're not interested in a new job, you can treat Job Posting messages the
same way you treat invitations to share abandoned Nigerian money. There aren't
nearly as many.

Subject: Re: Job posting
I've been a member of this board for a while and don't
think job postings are appropriate. This board is used
to discuss issues in the industry.
If you want to post, use Monster.com.
