Further to Andy Berks' message, don't forget that an AU-A can also exist
entirely without WO predecessors i.e. it is still open for anyone to
file directly at the Australian office to obtain an Australian patent
without going through the PCT. The problem about being sent a PCT
document when you request an AU-A only arises when the Australian
application has matured from an international one. There are lots of
perfectly valid AU-A documents with no connection to any PCT filing.
As Andy said, an AU-B is a different beast entirely and you cannot
assume that it will have the same claims as the AU-A, irrespective of
whether it has come via the PCT route.
Incidentally, to date I have not seen Louise's original posting. I know
there are time differences at work here, but seeing the answer before
you get to see the question is a bit bizarre - are there server problems?
