Would it be possible to open the archives to spiders, but prior to that, to convert or delete the e-mail addresses in the archive?
Changing --XXX@YYY.com-- to --XXX@YYYnospam.com-- or something even more subtle, would likely thwart the spamming spiders yet allow the content to be available to the public.
