Roy,
You may not be aware that the Questel-Orbit Archives have a Search
feature capable of locating messages by text content (not just subject,
author, date), as you would like.

I sympathize with Cynthia's complaint about spam resulting from PIUG-L
postings. I've experienced the same thing repeatedly. PIUG-L
etiquette requests we provide full contact information, so PIUG-L becomes a
handy sourcelist for spammers. Although we already have 2 versions of the
PIUG-L archive available for searching, I'd find some advantages in having
a more effectively searchable archive based on the text of PIUG-L postings,
rather than sorting & browsing by posters' names or subject lines.
Alan Engel's question about whether email contact information can be
removed automatically as part of the list management or archiving solution
is an apt question. But spam is much like the genie in the bottle, once
out, hard to recapture. If one of the PIUG-L archives is open to
spidering, then clearly spam will proliferate to our posters.

I've been experimenting with several add-ons to Outlook for identifying or
blocking spam from my inbox. The one that seems to have the least
adverse effects on the way Outlook runs is Postal Inspector for Outlook.
It slows down being able to read one's email each time Outlook is launched,
but the reward is seeing much or most of the junk email disappear into the
quarantined folder. Anybody work for an organization where their IT
department has implemented a spam blocker within OUTLOOK? I'm having
trouble having our IT people think of spam blocking as a worthy use of
their time administering email servers.

     Dear PIUG-L subscribers

Originally I replied off list to Alan, Elvin and Tracy.

However, I will publicly cast my vote to keep blocking spiders from
the PIUG archives. The only place my business email address appears
is on the PIUG Web page and in the PIUG-L archives. As a result I
have received unwanted, unsolicited emails including the scams from
     Africa.

My preference is to use my business email for professional/job related
activities but if it is going to result in undesirable emails, then I
will either remove my email address from such listings or set up a
separate 'hotmail' account for those activities.
