Hello Everyone,
As Lucy's email of this week indicated, the next PIUG National Meeting in
May 2003 will be on the subject of Patent Analysis. In keeping with the
theme of this year's meeting I am planning on providing advance
Patinformatics training before the meeting begins. This would be a day long
session to be held at the hotel site of the meeting on Saturday May 3rd.
I am looking for feedback from PIUG members on a couple of issues with
regards to this training opportunity. The first issue involves attendance.
Please email me at trippe@go-concepts.com if you would be interested in
attending a day long session of this nature.
The second issue involves the overall subject matter. I am considering
three different agendas for the workshop and I would like to hear from PIUG
members on which of the following they would be most interested in hearing
about.
The first subject could be a tools centric training course. I would choose
approximately six different Patinformatics tools and demonstrate how each
can be used in doing analysis work. At the end of the course the
participants will know how to apply these tools toward their own positions.
With regards to this option I would also like to hear from people on what
tools they would like included.
The second might be a collection of three case studies where I would take
the class step by step on how particular types of analysis are done. An
example of this type of study might be identifying leads for the out
licensing of an organization's intellectual property. I am also interested
in hearing suggestions for some possible studies relating to your business
experiences.
Finally, another option could be a more philosophical examination of what it
takes to perform patent analysis work. Concentrating less on tools, this
session would review how this work is valued in organizations, how to
develop essential relationships with the groups that the analyst will be
working with, and practical discussions on how to develop the skills needed
to perform this type of work.
There will be a fee charged for the workshop with the cost being determined
once the curriculum has been settled upon. A significant portion of the
profits will be given to PIUG to help fund the future activities of the
group.
In my past endeavors I have acquired knowledge in each of these particular
areas. I am excited about having the opportunity to work with a number of
you and share my experiences. Thank you in advance for your feedback and I
am looking forward to seeing most of you at next year's meeting.
With Best Regards,
Tony Trippe
