Of course you can't be expected to provide a secure link, nor should you be
responsible in anyway for anything that goes wrong when writing a program
with intentions to help people.
I'm sure that you have completely decent motivations for keeping a log of
the use of the program. It's just that people have a *very* strong
resistance to being watched by a computer program. Accepting a log of thier
activities being supervised by a distant unknown person is violating to most
peoples sense of freedom and sets a very bad precident.
I doubt that the PTO's have any ability to stop software downloads in the
general sense. A download program merely emulates the action of a browser.
If they found some peculiar characteristic of a download program to identify
it as such it would be simple enough just to modify the program to behave
differently.
They can (and will) however stop access to specific users. I intend to just
leave it up to them.
