Aventis Pharma Inc. has an immediate job opening in our Patent
Information Group. This group is part of the Patent Department and reports
to the Head of Global Patent Litigation. Our clients are our US patent
attorneys and agents which number about 25. We provide detailed reports in
answer to their requests. The Patent group is now located in East
Millstone, NJ with plans to move to the Bridgewater, NJ site at the end of
August. The Information Scientist who will be hired is a replacment for a
member who is joining the US Patent Prosecution Group as a patent agent.
Successful candidates will be able to meet the following minimum
requirements:
Job Duties:
Researches complex topics in chemistry, medicine, and life sciences as
assigned. Evaluates and analyzes results. Prepares reports and assists
clients in their interpretation.
Maintains current awareness in select areas of patenting.
Helps train new members of group in patent information retrieval, patent
law, and preparation of search reports.
Monitors duties of administrative assistants, assists in developments of
Patent Information Group files and indexes.
Monitors department hardware and software, troubleshoots problems.
Suggests improvements to patent department resources.
Maintains and improves information retrieval skills by attendance at
workshops and seminars.
Qualifications:
Degree in chemistry. (prefer advanced degree)
Thorough knowledge of substructure searching on STN and Questel-Orbit, and
Derwent fragmentation codes.
Experience :
At least 2 years of information retrieval in a pharmaceutical company,
medical facility or related industry. Detailed knowledge of patent
information sources. Demonstrated patent information analysis skills. Good
communication skills.
