There are a total of 10 candidates for accession, with the earliest
possible date being 1 July 2002. The actual accession date depends on
conclusion of national legislative changes and deposit of the instrument
of accession to the EPC. The 4 states noted have won the race ; the
other 6 in the process are Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary
and Romania, and we should expect to see similar messages over the next
few months bringing these states in as well.
