RE: A question on Dataware

(Sigh. Nothing is "up", Greg, as you undoubtedly well know. Of course you
have had my email address for many years, and could have emailed me directly
with these questions, as you also well know. Feel free to email me directly
for definitions of "activism" versus "muckraking.")

Dataware was acquired by OpenText, which functions as a subcontractor to
Lockheed Martin, one of PTO's SDM (Systems Maintenance and Development)
contractors in providing the full-text database service. The same
OpenText/Dataware staff that implemented the database are still running it.
I am the PTO task manager for this database, as I have been since its
inception.

The full-page image database (accessed through the blue "Images" button) is
operated in-house at PTO, as it has been since its inception.

During the last two years, the full-text database has had one period of
downtime, lasting twenty minutes. Other than one four-hour period on 18
September 2001, any slowness has been due to either heavy issue day traffic,
or normal Internet congestion.

No slowness or other problems have been noted with the full-page images
since the servers were moved to a new Internet access provider in July 2001.

Regards,
Larry Larson, USPTO
