"Free Patent Databases on the Internet: an Impact Assessment"

A questionnaire survey administered by Technopolis Limited on behalf of
DG Enterprise of the European Commission

QUESTIONNAIRE TO REMAIN ON INTERNET 'TIL MID-JANUARY

This is just a quick note to update you on progress with the DG Enterprise patent study and to ask for your continuing support with the survey.

Our Internet-based questionnaire has worked well. We have 400 or so good responses from patent users around the globe, and a small number of completed questionnaires arrive most days even six weeks after the survey was first posted.

DG Enterprise has been delighted with the response and has asked Technopolis to leave the questionnaire on our web site through to mid January 2001. In addition, DG Enterprise asked us to send out this progress note to the organisations that have helped to promote the survey, seeking your continuing support.

We have set a new and ambitious goal of 750 questionnaire returns with a majority of those additional responses being obtained from respondents in the EU member states. At present, the EU returns account for around 30% of all responses.

We would be grateful if you could contact your colleagues and member organisations once again and let them know that there is still time for people to complete a questionnaire (or send us a general comment), which will be on Technopolis' web-site until 20th January at http://www.technopolis-group.com/p_survey. We are interested especially in returns from patent users in the EU.

Thank you once again for your support to this important project. Do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

We look forward to hearing from your colleagues and associates.

Best regards

Luca Serafini
Consultant

PS We shall be happy to provide an electronic copy of the study report to all contributors in the spring, subject to approval of the document by the Commission.
