The Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI),
Princeton, New Jersey is rapidly expanding its Drug Discovery
Program at Princeton and a new site at Hopewell, a 10 minute
drive from Princeton. To augment our support for this vigorous
program, the Scientific Information department of the PRI has an
immediate opening in Hopewell for an experienced patent
searcher/analyst.
The major responsibilities of this job are:
* Prepare cogent scientific summaries of patent searches and
report these findings to BMS Corporate Legal including prior
art, infringement, and patentability studies. Direct support
of the Patent Department, R&D Project Teams, Licensing, and
Management at PRI sites and other company sites.
* Participate in multidisciplinary teams in the development of
advanced methods for dissemination and analysis of patent
information and related competitive intelligence. The
Department is moving toward a fully electronic system for
the management of patent documents.
* Market our patent information services via a Patent Outreach
Program to educate PRI Scientists about patent resources
within the Patent Analyst Group.
Qualifications for this job:
* Ph.D./MS in chemistry, biochemistry, or biotechnology
* Experience in prior art patent searching (online/hardcopy or
at the USPTO) and analyzing and reporting scientific issues
from the patent and scientific literature. Thorough
knowledge of electronic and manual patent sources, e.g.,
Chemical Structure Searching, Derwent Fragmentation Codes,
INPADOC, US, European, WIPO/PCT Patent databases, IDdb, and
Current Patents as well as a grasp of patent filing
practices and prosecution.
* At least 5 years' experience of online databases and
internet resources devoted to chemical, biomedical and
information sciences and technologies (e.g., DIALOG, STN,
MMS). Familiarity with the pharmaceutical R&D pipeline -
discovery, clinical trials, launch, and post-market
surveillance.
* Comfortable in networked and computer environments,
including internet and intranet systems. Interest in new
technologies for information & knowledge management at the
desktop or in the laboratory is considered a plus.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
