PIUG
I'll try to briefly answer this last set of questions but am also happy to
take tem directly so as not to abuse the real purpose of the PIUG board.
you can aways direct feedback to Delphion directly from our website
(www.delphion.com) or feel free to send me a direct email. At any rate, let
me try to answer these latest questions:
What is the relationship between Delphion and IBM? Was it spun off into a
completely separate company, publically traded? Or is it a wholly-own
subsidiary?
>>I tried to address this directly in the initial note by stating that
>>Delphion is a completely separate legal entity. We are no longer tied to
>>IBM. We were spun off in May of this year. It is not publically traded
>>at this point nor is it a wholly owned subsidiary. It is an independent
>>and thus far private company. As the announcement stated at the time
>>(some may have seen it) it is owned in part by IBM and in part by Internet
>>Capital Group. The percentages of ownership were not made public and are
>>not relevant as IBM does not have management control of Delphion.
A second question: When will we see some benefit from the much ballyhooed
partnership with Derwent? What form will this take?
>>Delphion and Derwent are both excited about the relationship we announced
>>early this year. The fact that it came at the same time as the spin off
>>and the associated work of starting a new company from the ground up has
>>inevitably impacted delivery time-lines. That said, the technical work to
>>integrate DWPI into the IPN is nearly complete. We have a bit more work
>>to do on the technical side and we're also working with Derwent to
>>finalize the offering so as to accommodate their business models for data
>>access before we put the collection into production. Depending on the
>>answers to some of the questions we are working through, the actual go
>>live date will be somewhere between 10/1 and the end of the year.
Does anyone from Delphion read this list?
>>Yes, a number of us are subscribers. Our intent is to stay aware of the
>>needs of the PIUG users as they get expressed here. It is interesting to
>>know what features and functions you like and need. As we build up our
>>marketing function we will become more active in addressing those needs
>>over time. We try to not use it as a sales and promotion tool so we
>>typically don't initiate notes to the broader group. At times we've
>>addressed specific items one on one with the initiator. This has usually
>>resulted in a good conversation and an opportunity for us to learn what's
>>important to you on an individual basis. Because of the nature of the
>>"rumor" note and the degree to which is was incorrect and misleading we
>>felt it was time to send a response to the larger group.
>> Finally -- we like the chant -- just make it "go, Delphion" from here
>>out. As we said, we hope to ramp up our business quickly and to start
>>delivering value to you and to the broader market. Please feel free to
>>contact us directly for any items that aren't appropriate for the PIUG
>>board. We're always interested in customer views and needs. Thanks for
>>listening.
