Senior Patent/Chemistry Information Liaison

We are seeking a dynamic individual with extensive knowledge in
the field of Medicinal/Organic Chemistry and an in-depth
understanding of domestic and international patent information.
In this role, you will demonstrate expertise in the use of
patent and scientific information retrieval systems and an ability,
through scientific insight, to interpret, analyze and integrate information.
The successful candidate will work with scientific staff, patent
attorneys, and the licensing department to support the business
objectives of the company. You will also provide information
support to the R&D community in the area of chemistry and
related disciplines when necessary. You will need to possess
good communication and organizational skills, the ability to
understand, interpret and articulate client needs, along with
the ability to work independently and/or with project teams
as necessary. Through your initiative and influence, this
service will be refined and developed to meet the current
and future needs of your R&D colleagues. To this end,
strong working relationships will be developed with
senior researchers. A detailed awareness of their
business goals and scientific objectives will be essential.
You will work with other information staff members in
coordinating and maintaining a complete information service.
The successful candidate must be a highly skilled
patent searcher who is able to work with individuals
throughout the company to provide exceptional service.
You must have the ability to interpret information
requirements as well as demonstrate an in-depth
understanding and expert use of a wide variety of
chemical and patent information resources and
technologies e.g. STN, Dialog, Merged Markush (MMS).
You will demonstrate an understanding of patent filing
practices and documentation as well as sources of information
on patent status and litigation. Experience in prior-art
patent searching and the analysis and reporting of
scientific issues uncovered in the patent and search
literature is required. Thorough knowledge of electronic
and manual patent sources, e.g. Derwent, INPADOC,
US Patent files and an extensive knowledge of chemical
structure searching and Derwent fragmentation coding is
expected. You will also have the ability to review and
present information and communicate well on all levels.
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum BS in Chemistry
with an MS or PhD preferred. The possession of an MLS degree
is a plus. A minimum of three years experience in chemical and
patent searching for a pharmaceutical company is required.
